The free-spirited festival of Gypsy Music and its neighboring genres is back for its 14th edition, again forging a transcendent bond between performer and audience and open to people of all cultural identities. Brought to you by New York’s international nightlife residents Serdar Ilhan and Mehmet Dede of downtown venue Drom, the festival is renowned for reeling in bands from all over the globe (as well as an equally international audience) under the Gypsy banner. From September 6 to October 5, the NY Gypsy Festival once again invites you to sing and dance to the roaring sounds of Gypsy music with an audience of many different cultural backgrounds and a shared love & respect for its music and dance.
This year’s attendees will be transported from Avenue A to the hills of southern Italy, the city lights of St. Petersburg, and beyond. The festival will focus on encapsulating listeners into the feelings of the Gypsy journey through a wide variety of world music genres, including flamenco, southern Italian folk, turbo-punk, Indian, Balkan brass, funk and more.
